INRETE, a European company specializing in providing Internet services to automobile makers, has developed Automatica, a USB drive that syncs digital content between car and cloud service through a Wi-Fi connection and the Automatica website.

More cars are being outfitted with USB ports to allow drivers and passengers the easy connectivity that comes with the USB interface. It reflects a changing demographic of automobile owners; computers and their accessories are becoming so integrated into everyday aspects that people are starting to expect them to translate to almost every area of their lives. The automobile is no longer an exception to this demand. Now that newer model cars have USB ports, there’s been an explosion in the use and development of products geared specifically at car owners.

INRETE’s Automatica In-Vehicle Smart USB Device takes the idea of internet connectivity in automobiles a step further. It reads just like a normal USB flash drive, which can provide audio content to your enjoyment in its own right, when plugged into a car’s USB port. But what Automatica creates is access to music and audio content that no in-vehicle USB drive can compare to.

The key here is Automatica’s ability to connect to a Wi-Fi network. When plugged in, Automatica manages a local cache in your car’s internal storage that can store up to 24 hours-worth of audio. Audio content can come from Dropbox, Google Drive, Microsoft SkyDrive, or any combination of those services and more. It’s up to you to decide when you set-up Automatica for use.

The first time around, the device allows you to customize its settings through a personalization process where you can choose which feeds the USB device should pick up on. Once that’s done and the Wi-Fi connection is up and running, you can sit back and enjoy the relentless stream of audio content that keeps on updating as long as the device picks up a Wi-Fi signal. If you want to have more than 24 hours-worth of storage, Automatica allows its storage capacity to be extended with a microSD slot.

INRETE’s Automatica can be pre-ordered through www.automaticaweb.com for the price of $99.

    Hi there,

Automatica could well be the first to employ USB 3.0, uh?
